Remotely operated and autonomous wheel loaders make the work safer and lay the foundation for the future of driverless machines for road and critical infrastructure maintenance in Norway.
KRISTIANSAND, NORWAY, 02 OCTOBER 2025: Hive Autonomy AS, Presis Vegdrift AS, and Statens Vegvesen have entered into an agreement to use Hive’s remote operation and autonomy technology on Presis Vegdrift’s wheel loaders. The collaboration brings driverless and autonomous heavy machinery to demanding Nordic conditions, with the goal of protecting people from dangerous environments and shaping the future of infrastructure and road maintenance.

“This collaboration demonstrates the opportunities that arise when established and forward-looking players join forces on comprehensive solutions. Hive’s technology for remotely operated machines is an important step in realizing our vision of a more efficient, safe, and sustainable transport system. The solution supports our strategic goals of digitalization and automation, and contributes to improved traffic safety, efficient operations, and reduced emissions,” says Geir Ove Engebø at Statens Vegvesen.
Hive’s technology will be retrofitted onto Presis Vegdrift’s existing fleet of machines, providing both remote operation and autonomy capabilities. This enables unmanned operation under harsh conditions where operator safety is a priority. Through unmanned operations, Presis Vegdrift reduces the risks associated with sending people into avalanche-prone areas and ensures faster year-round response times. The long-term vision is to offer a centralized control center with the capability to manage all of Presis Vegdrift’s national operations.
“Hive technology supports our strategy of combining innovation in remote operation, AI, and autonomy with operational expertise in road and infrastructure maintenance. It ensures that our preparedness has the best tools to protect people, infrastructure, and the environment,” says Ove Sending, Presis Vegdrift.

“Presis Vegdrift is a solid company with clients such as Statens Vegvesen, and carries out an important societal mission. That Hive can contribute to safe and accessible infrastructure with remote operation and autonomous solutions built here in Norway is a dream delivery for us. We are proud to support Presis Vegdrift and Statens Vegvesen, and thereby contribute to critical road operations across the entire country,” says Fredrik Bringager, CCO at Hive Autonomy.
