Hive and Toyota Material Handling Announce Partnership for AI-Driven Trucks
AI-powered autonomous trucks and remote operation pave the way for the future of logistics.

KRISTIANSAND, NORWAY February 10, 2025 – Hive Autonomy AS and Toyota MaterialHandling Norway AS (TMHNO) have entered a partnership to provide plug-and-play automation for Toyota’s transport and lifting machines. The collaboration was announced at the Røros Conference for Internal Logistics.
Hive’s platform enables Toyota forklifts to operate autonomously in unpredictable environments where AGVs fall short, unlocking a significant number of new operations for automation through artificial intelligence. The result is increased productivity, lower operational costs, and enhanced safety through autonomous collision avoidance and precise maneuvering.
“Autonomous, driverless machines will significantly improve workplace safety while enabling a radical boost in productivity within the logistics industry,” says Christoffer Jørgenvåg, CEO of Hive Autonomy. “Together with Toyota, we are building a partnership that will shape the future of internal logistics, where autonomy and artificial intelligence play key roles.”
Remote Operation Unlocks New Workforce Opportunities
Toyota trucks equipped with Hive’s technology can be controlled remotely from an operation station. A single operator can manage multiple machines simultaneously, reducing costs and opening the door to a new generation of forklift operators.
“This is a unique addition to Toyota’s product portfolio and the first technology launch of its kind in Norway,” says Lars Petter Bjørgen. “The partnership enables the automation of a wide range of truck types, both existing and new models.”
A selection of pilot customers has already signed letters of intent to adopt the technology, which can be experienced at Hive’s test center in Kristiansand today and at Toyota’s new demonstration center at Gardermoen later in 2025.
